Psalm 51 Psalm 51 from the Family Album series uses the medium of photography and begins to work where the medium fails to function. The photograph can only reveal so much and the use of alternative processes such as installation, material, and photo transfers provide the ability to push the medium further altogether. Psalm 51 transports the viewer to La Iglesia de Dios as an anchor and a way to juxtapose the illustrative quality of the work with the film footage; the ready-made to the archival. The QR Code placed on Jesus symbolizes its role in religion as an institution where the 51 pixels missing from Father’s face comment on the years he would have been alive. Mother being the only one visible examines her devotion to the institution and presence in my life, Psalm 51 holds her in reverence with its scale and display which demands presence. The work weaves together ideas of what it means to be seen and what is deliberately left out or missing, like a corrupt file. These works introduce questions of identity and examine the interdependence of complex relationships. Psalm 51 is part of the Family Album Series and is still ongoing.
